A recent report states that 1 in 5 students in grades 7 to 12 experience a brain injury that results in loss of consciousness or hospitalization. Concussions which did not result in hospitalization or loss of consciousness for less than 5 minutes were not counted. Sports injuries accounted for more than half of these injuries and 63% of all of those injured were boys. Other causes of injury may include motor vehicle collisions, assaults, and falls.
